Dear Nigeria,

Your young people are tired of waiting.

We are tired of being told that our time will come when we have spent years watching opportunities pass us by. We are tired of hearing, โ€œBe patient,โ€ when patience has become the language of a generation that has learned to survive uncertainty.

But Nigeria, please understand us.

We are not lazy.

We wake up early for school. We squeeze into crowded buses. We sit through endless traffic. We study under difficult conditions. We search for opportunities online. We learn skills from our phones. We create businesses from our bedrooms. We dream even when dreaming feels expensive.

We are trying.

We are a generation learning to turn limited resources into possibilities. We turn setbacks into lessons, rejection into motivation, and uncertainty into determination. Behind many Nigerian smiles is a young person quietly planning, studying, saving, creating, and hoping for a breakthrough that can change everything for everyone around us.

Sometimes, being young in Nigeria feels like carrying two bags at once: one filled with dreams and another filled with worries.

We worry about our future.

Will there be a good job after school?

Will our education be enough?

Will our talents be noticed?

Will we have to leave the country before we can become the people we want to be?

These questions visit many young minds quietly.

Yet something about Nigerian young people continues to amaze me.

We still create.

We still laugh.

We still sing.

We still build.

We still dream.

Give a Nigerian young person a phone, an internet connection, and a little opportunity, and you may discover an artist, programmer, writer, entrepreneur, engineer, athlete, or leader waiting to be noticed.

Our problem is not a lack of talent.

Sometimes, it is a lack of opportunity.

Nigeria, your young people do not want handouts. We want systems that allow hard work to mean something. We want schools that prepare us for the future. We want roads that make movement easier. We want electricity that supports businesses and learning. We want opportunities that do not require knowing the right person before we can prove ourselves.

Most importantly, we want to believe that building our future here is possible.

We do not hate Nigeria.

That is the misunderstanding.

We complain because we care.

We criticize because we believe things can be better.

We dream because somewhere inside us, there is still hope.

Maybe that is the greatest strength of Nigerian youth: despite everything, we keep moving.

So, dear Nigeria, please do not ask your young people to wait forever.

Give us the chance to participate in building the country we keep imagining.

Because we are not just the future of Nigeria.

We are already here.

We are studying.

We are creating.

We are working.

We are watching.

And one day, we will have the opportunity to answer the question that has followed our generation for years:

โ€œWhat could Nigeria have become if her young people had been given the chance?โ€

I hope our answer will be:

โ€œLook around. We built it.โ€
